Bergamot, Citrus, Grapefruit, Licorice

Vanilla, Almond, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber
We’re not too sure if we’re entitled to call “1725” a fougère, even if all the defining elements are mostly present and correct: an aromatic-citric top comprising lavender and bergamot, the almondy sweetness of coumarin and a shaded woody base which, alas, is missing the oakmoss but more than makes up for it with a rich amber accord. Yet “1725” goes beyond the brisk, sharp freshness and the clean feel of a classical fougère and steps boldly into full blown oriental territory with a few gourmand flourishes to boot. After all, it’s only fitting for a fragrance inspired by the legendary seducer Casanova to have more than just one ace up its sleeve. Seduction, just like “1725”, is a multi layered thing. And we believe that it always includes a hint of vulnerability and sensibility. We don’t want merely sexual prowess. We want to feel needed. And “1725” has this tender, floral-powdery core, vaguely reminiscent of the legendary Guerlain “L’Heure Bleue”, which feels as if someone has opened up their heart to you. And so it happens that “1725” digs under the surface of a cynical lothario to show you that we always have to be ready to be taken by surprise.
There are many perfumes that have a story to tell, they can awaken memories, recall pictures to the mind’s eye and evoke emotions. Gérald Ghislain, the man behind Histoires de Parfums, wants more: he wants to write history, namely perfume history – with perfumes which not only tell stories, but also tell of history. Inspiration for Ghislain’s scents are the outstanding personalities of their time, influential characters from bygone eras; or even whole periods themselves, eras that influenced history with their zeitgeist.
