This is the kind of fragrance perfume lovers live for: very rich, almost unctuous layers of gorgeousness unfolding lazily, a mesmerising olfactive movie in slow motion. And there’s no mistaking the vintage feel of “Diaghilev”: brazen opulence and animalism dripping like thick honey, coating the skin in an almost edible, boldly sensual veneer. They don’t make them like this anymore. But they used to. In the days of Ballets Russes, early twentieth century, all perfumes had the same lush, impossibly full-bodied allure. Fast forward to twenty first century, and bergamot is restricted, nitromusks are banned, oakmoss is allowed only in minute quantities and only with certain molecules removed, and so on. It is actually a feat of the perfumer’s craft that “Diaghilev” exists. Wearing it feels like immersing yourself in a lost world. You can almost picture Sergei Diaghilev, founder of Ballets Russes spraying “Mitsouko” abundantly on the stage’s heavy velvet curtains, because he loved that perfume and because he knew scent can be just as much a part of a performance, as movement or music. “Diaghilev” is Roja Dove’s very loving tribute to the iconic “Mitsouko” or better said the archetypal chypre, an interplay so masterful between light and shadows it keeps us entranced for hours. Imagine “Mitsouko” at least ten times stronger, richer and more carnal than it is now, and you’re going to start getting an idea about how “Diaghilev” smells like. It is a perfume to be worn with furs, in grand settings, but it is also a perfume to be worn in bed amongst crumpled sheets to smudge on the skin of another. You won’t be forgotten.

Master Perfumer, Roja Dove, is renowned for using the finest quality materials available; from precious Rose de Mai to legendary Ambergris – every Roja Parfums creation is made without compromise. Every element has Roja’s personal attention to detail. Every aspect is uncompromising and captures Roja’s central philosophy, “only the best will do”. Considerable skill is required to make and hand finish each Roja Parfums flacon. Each bottle is manufactured in France and made of the purest, clearest glass used in the industry. The gold detail is screen-printed in England onto the glass by hand in a process that takes three days to complete. The front of each bottle is adorned with a golden plaque applied to the glass by hand in England. Each precious bottle sits within an equally precious presentation box that is hand assembled in England by award winning craftsmen who use the finest quality papers, woods, and silks, many of which are created exclusively for Roja Parfums.
