Named after the Black Iris of Amman, which is the Royal symbol of the Kings Of Jordan, “Orris Noir” is less about the smell of Iris butter per se and more about the texture of the flower’s petals, something like a cross between silk and velvet, at the same time delicate and plush, cool and warm.

“Orris Noir” dresses beautiful skin in an invisible garment almost more beautiful than skin itself: exotic and sumptuous, intricately embroidered in threads of gold, black and purple, luxurious enough to take your breath away yet fluid enough to feel natural and modern.

The Iris is a discreet presence, its innate fragility made even more striking and poignant by contrasting it against a lush backdrop of rich florals, spices and woods. That cold, rooty note with subtle intimations of lipstick and powder enveloped within the devastating trail of sweetened, resinous woods, boozy davana and heady jasmine feels like catching the glimpse of an enigmatic smile underneath a dark lace veil. Fleeting but unforgettable and all the more precious: a fragrant secret.

Ormonde Jayne stands for a return to the golden age of perfumery, an elegant era when fragrance creation was a fine art, when essential oils and absolutes were infused for a period of months before filtration and then allowed to mature again before bottling, resulting in a deeper, more complex perfume. Ormonde Jayne’s oils are compounded from finest ingredients available and matured in the classical style in its own London laboratory. By doing so, Ormonde Jayne’s creator Linda Pilkington upholds the fine art of exquisite perfumery whose principles she meticulously applied in every creation included in her fragrance collection.
