“Une Rose de Kandahar” was supposed to be a limited edition fragrance, as its composition is based around the central pillar of the precious rose essence extracted from Afghan roses. It still is in a way, because the scarcity of the rose oil production doesn’t guarantee PHI’s availability at all times. Nangarhar, the home of these sumptuous roses, is a region rife with conflict and uncertainty, and that makes the phenomenal success of this Tauer fragrance even more poignant. That such luxurious, yet lighthearted beauty emerged with the help of an arid land, torn at its seams by the crazyness of humans and their politics, it’s a testament to both our destructive and creative abilities. Mr. Tauer has a special ability with roses, and in “PHI-Une Rose de Kandahar” he’s showcasing his skill with amazing, mouthwatering results. This time he chose to make rose delicious and chewy as an exotic confectionery, sprinkling bitter almonds powder and decorating with dried apricots.
“PHI-Une rose de Kandahar” has the textural feel of warm Turkish delight, gooey and sweet, yet oddly dry and silky smooth at the same time. Beyond the bright, lush gourmand touches lay the shadows of woods and tobacco and the animalistic lick of musk and ambergris which give this predominantly happy scent, a touch of mystery and regal composure. This rose might be laughing and twirling carelessly in the sunlight, but underneath the sparkling veneer and the voluptuous indulgence there are darker secrets to discover. Une Rose de Kandahar? Yes, and of Babylon too.
“You need absolute freedom to create beautiful fragrances. And you need time. And the best ingredients you can get. That is the true mystery how to create thrilling fragrances.
I never studied the art of perfume making in a school. I do not compromise when I deal with perfumes. I invite you to test my fragrant sculptures, luxurious and rich such as ROSE CHYPRÉE, or evocative such as my 5 star AIR DU DÉSERT MAROCAIN, and you will believe. I am purely self taught, started my venture 12 years ago in Switzerland and sell my fragrances worldwide.
I am 100% independent and follow my taste and instinct. I consider perfumery as an artisan craft, and I want to stay connected to what I create.”
