We’ve probably told you before: white flowers are the divas of perfumery and tuberose is their queen. The Victorians used to forbid young girls from smelling tuberose flowers for fear of that provoking them a spontaneous orgasm and however ludicrous this might be sounding to us today, it’s still a powerful testament for the almost otherworldly, complex sensuality of the tuberose scent. How has Andy Tauer handled this beautiful erotic monster? Well first of all by accentuating the strange, exotic, borderline medicinal, qualities of tuberose with an overdose of cool-hot spices, (cloves, although perceived as sweet, also have an almost icy aspect, hence the dichotomy) and second of all, pairing it most originally with the olfactive illusion of petrichor, which is that pleasant, beautiful smell, warm earth and stones exude after the rain. There’s a type of perfume in India, called mitti attar, which captures this hard to describe aroma, the scent of the monsoon finally arriving to quench everyone’s thirst after the long dry season. “Sotto La Luna Tuberose” is mitti attar poured over silky tuberose petals, their disturbingly hot, rubbery, flower of the night smell, cooled off with rain vapours and a spattering of camphorated spices. It is the most imaginative, captivating, flower-to-entire-landscape metamorphose we have ever encountered, one that can easily be called a work of art. Don’t expect pretty, but do expect to be riveted!
“You need absolute freedom to create beautiful fragrances. And you need time. And the best ingredients you can get. That is the true mystery how to create thrilling fragrances.
I never studied the art of perfume making in a school. I do not compromise when I deal with perfumes. I invite you to test my fragrant sculptures, luxurious and rich such as ROSE CHYPRÉE, or evocative such as my 5 star AIR DU DÉSERT MAROCAIN, and you will believe. I am purely self taught, started my venture 12 years ago in Switzerland and sell my fragrances worldwide.
I am 100% independent and follow my taste and instinct. I consider perfumery as an artisan craft, and I want to stay connected to what I create.”
